Why Swim?
Hydrotherapy, which translates literally as ‘healing with water’, is exercise whilst the body is supported in water. It is useful for:
- Recovering from an operation especially orthopaedic or spinal surgery
- Arthritis relieving joint inflammation, increasing mobility
- Improving muscle tone and building muscle bulk.
Patients who have recently had surgery can perform movements which would be impossible on land, helping them to recover lost muscle tone and joint flexibility.
Overweight dogs can exercise with extra support for their joints. Swimming is safe ‘non or low weight bearing’ form of exercise.
Healthy dogs can swim to get fitter.
Sporty dogs improve their cardio fitness for agility, endurance of whatever else you like to do with your pet. Hydrotherapy also improves muscle strength and joint mobility.
